Remember when you could shut out all the air pollution and other crap just by going inside of your house and closing the door? When you’re in your own property, you get to control the good quality of the air you breathe. Or does one really? The very simple truth is that there are a lot of pollutants that can wind up in the air of your house and raise the risk of your contracting asthma and respiratory issues. Part of this is because our homes are becoming more air tight-we have better windows and seals in an attempt to reduce heating and cooling costs. Of course, saving power is how we are now making the air in our homes difficult to breathe in and out. Here are a number of the things that you can do to keep your home’s air as healthful as you possibly can.
If you are able, leave your shoes outside of the house. If that’s not feasible, leave them within your residence’s entry way. As you wander around outside-even in locations like malls and hospitals, your sneakers grab things. In addition to dirt and debris, your sneakers get a tiny layer of mold, bacteria and various chemicals on the bottom of them. When you enter your own home with your shoes on, you bring in these items and it gets into the floors and carpets. It then becomes kicked up anytime there is activity. Instead of staying in the floors it goes back up into the air flow and you raise your chances of breathing it in. When you leave your sneakers outside or within your home’s entry way, this risk gets lowered by a lot.
Don’t pick up your dry cleaning the moment it’s done. Let the cleaner keep it for a day or two. Apparel which has just been recently dry cleaned is soaked with chemicals that are incredibly harmful. Some of them are actually linked to cancer along with neurological damage. Before you bring your clothes home you’ll want to make sure that they are completely dry. If your clothing is not all the way dry, you risk breathing in those same chemical compounds and, potentially, getting them on your skin. It’s also advisable to work with a dry cleaner that uses the more modern, non-toxic and ecological dry cleaning techniques.
Make sure you ventilate your home! We know that you installed those new windows because you sought better control over your home’s temperature. But if you leave those windows sealed all day and night, you’re raising your risk of breathing in the stuff you kick up as you walk around. The dust mites which get kicked up after you dust and vacuum can’t escape. The fumes and smoke if you make meals gets contained so you breathe it in. The steam from your shower can seep into your walls causing mold to form which can then get breathed in and do serious damage to your health. Your fans need to get turned on. Keep your glass windows open. Give the kicked up stuff an opportunity to escape.
You can make your home more healthy using a lot of different methods. Don’t forget: coming home does not mean that you physically shut out the world’s challenges (literally). Take steps to make certain your property actually is pollution free.
